Many years ago there was an old sawmill town on the corner of Tittabawassee and Lawndale. Nothing of the old town remains, but I have driven thru there many times in my lifetime, and I would say Tittabawassee is on of the busiest roads in Saginaw County. I wonder if anyone else knows about the long forgotten town.
The Town had a station on the Pere Marquette railroad, and in 1891 it was given a post office and the town was named Ohman after it’s first postmaster William Ohman. the town was renamed Lawndale in 1892 and operated until 1903.
I could not find any photos of the old town, so I stopped by the nearby cemetery on the corner of Lawndale and Kochville road. There are some old tombstones in the cemetery, and I can only guess that some of the people laid to rest in the old cemetery lived in the long lost town of Lawndale. I also noticed in the cemetery there was a lot of tombstones of young children that had died around 1890, so I can only guess that the small town was plagued by disease.
