On thing I love about living in Saginaw is there are plenty of beautiful places to go and explore nature from the county parks to the local township parks and like this pic from the Shiawasse Wildlife Refuge. Maybe it’s a Michigan thing where we have lots of public lands and places to go. When I visit friends and relatives in other states it seems like they don’t have the large natural parks that we do. Maybe it’s just me but I think the new developments in some of the so called “popular cities” as they expand they don’t set aside places for people to enjoy nature if anything it’s the opposite. they build huge mansions along the most beautiful areas so only the wealthy can use and enjoy it. I am thankful that years ago there was the foresite to set aside land in Saginaw County for everyone to use.

the sun is out and the birds a chirping and it’s finally starting to feel like spring again in Saginaw. the question is with only 48 hours in a weekend what do I do or where do I go. I am thinking today would be a good day to walk, run or ride the Rail Trail but then again any day is a good day to do that.

I was going thru some of my old pics, and I found this one I took several years ago of the pond at Harvey Randall Wickes park on McCarty, or is it Hospital Road. I think this park is one of the most popular in Saginaw County, but I always find it funny that it is confusing to many people. If you say Wickes Park most people think of the park in South Saginaw along the river, and then for the “old time” people if you say Satopa they know what you mean. Don’t forget the two entrances, one on Hospital and one on McCarty. Regardless of what you call it or what entrance you use, it’s a beautiful park, and I like walking around the pond anytime of year.

by the way does anyone know when the name changed from Satopa to Harvey Randal Wickes Park, I I asked google, but it did not know.
