The big little town of Gera sits at the railroad crossing on M-83, also known as South Gara Road. I am sure a lot of tourists drive through Gera on their way to Frankenmuth. The town was originally was called Frankenmuth Station when a depot was built next to the Michigan Central Railroad tracks. In 1894, the town was given a post office and the name was changed to Gera after a town in Germany. The post office closed in 1902, but the little town still exists. I know I have driven through it many times on my way to Frankenmuth.
