I just learned that there is a plan to tear down the beans elevator along the river to make room for the new high school. While I am saddened at the thought I know that progress is made through sacrifice and hopeful that a new school will bring great things for Saginaw. The question is if the elevator is gone what happens to the world-famous BEANS sign. I think the parking ramp downtown across from the Civic Center would be a good location. It is close to the original location and still in downtown Saginaw. If the parking ramp is strong enough to hold up a plethora of cars it would support the sign. Plus the added benefit is if the sign needs to be serviced the technicians could drive right up to it.
I have absolutely no authority to make any decisions regarding the sign but I am just putting my idea out there for debate and willing to donate to a fundraiser. I do hope the sign is saved. Saginaw without a BEANS sign would be like Hollywood without its sign.
P.S. It is not the greatest photoshop job but I did it so I could envision what the sign would look like on the parking ramp.
