I found this old photo of Genesee Street at the Library of Congress. I am not sure of the exact date but it looks like the early 1900’s with the horse drawn buggies and the early Automobile parked on the street. I hope you will click on it to look at it full size.
On the left is the Eddy Building with Prall Drugstore, I like the sign ” Japanese Goods Gifts Prizes Souvenirs”
In the background is Jacob “Little Jake” Seligman’s building with the clock tower and statue of himself on top of the tower.
On the Right hand side of the street is Seitners Department Store and on the corner opposite of the Eddy Building is the People Savings Bank which is a party store now and next to that on the corner was J. W. Grant. the building is currently covered with an aluminum facade but I hope it will be removed during renovation to reveal the brickwork behind it.
I love looking at the people and the way they dressed back then with ladies in their fancy hats and dresses. the men with bowler hats and suit and ties.
I wonder what it was like back then but then I noticed the horse manure on the streets and it does not look that appealing and besides they didn’t have internet back then too.
if you like what I do, I hope you will check out my calendars, they help me with costs to do this website. you can look at them HERE
