East bound Genesee is blocked off to traffic from Washington to Franklin street. I have seen some rumors of demolition, but I saw some bricks on the sidewalk and have been told by some people that the city closed the sidewalk because of the falling bricks(but I have not confirmed that). The building at 220 Genesee is still privately owned, and I thing the city is just taking precautions until the owners can make sure the walls are safe. Downtown Saginaw has been heading in a positive direction in the past few years and hopefully this building will get some love and continue to prosper with the rest of downtown’s growth.
I am not old enough to remember what was in this building when downtown was “hopping” I did find an old photo, but I can’t make out what was in the building.
