Bronner’s posted this photo of their first billboard outside of Frankenmuth on the clock tower building in downtown Saginaw on their Instagram page HERE. Although I am not old enough to remember this sign or even this building I do have many fond memories of Bronners. I remember going there as a young boy with my grandparents marveling at how large the store was filled with Christmas decorations and gifts. Afterward, we would go to Zehnders or the Bavarian Inn to enjoy a chicken dinner. ( I still have a hard time choosing between them).
When my brothers and I were born, we all had a custom Christmas ornament with our birthday’s hand written on them, since I am getting pretty old, I guess that makes mine an antique. After my wife and I got married we had to get an ornament for our first Christmas together and after out children were born we had to get hand painted ornaments with their birthdate for the tree.
When my kids were a few years old, we took them to see Santa at the mall, and after being disappointed I told my wife there has to be a better place to go too. The following year we went to Bronner’s to see Santa and it was like going to the north pole for my Kids. Santa was a kind old gentleman who patiently listened to my children’s wishes while I got to take all the pics I wanted and afterwards we got a free ornament and we got a different one each year. The kids are a little older now and just text us what they want from Santa, but I still love hanging the ornaments on the tree.
I don’t know how I could live somewhere without a Bronner’s to go to during Christmas time.
