I have not posted anything in a while because it has been half rain and half snow and half yuck so I have not been out taking any pics. I was going through some old photos and I came across this one from 1906. I thought it was interesting. It says it is Washington Ave.  I think that is the Eddy building on the right so I am guessing this is looking north before the bank building was constructed.

You have probably seen the letters painted by various artists throughout Saginaw. They have all been assembled near the Andersen Enrichments center. I stopped and took a pic of them last week, but then we got some snow, so then I had to stop and get a pic of them in the snow. I think my favorite is the one of the Castle Museum but I like them all.

It’s December 1st so I guess that means we get some snow. It may be the first of the month, but unfortunately, it is not the first snowfall of the season. That cold weather and storm in November took care of that. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to spend it with their family. This Saturday, December 7th is the Arthur Hill Holiday Bazaar. I will be there with calendars, books, and T-shirts. I  hope you will stop by and say hello. I will be in my usual spot in the hallway.

It’s throwback Thursday so I figured I would share a pic I took several years ago. This is the old elevator on Niagra and Perry Streets. I don’t know anything about it but I thought it was an interesting looking structure.

Thank you to everyone that came out to Zauel Memorial Library on Tuesday to listen to my presentation. It was fun meeting all of you.

I was running some errands today and I went by Andersen Enrichment Center. I figured today was a good day to stop and get a photo of the rose garden. I am not old enough to remember the pool but I do remember the garden 25 years ago. On this day a quarter-century ago my wife and I got married. After our wedding, we took some pics in the garden. The overhead arbor was not covered in vines back then and a lot has changed over the years. Thankfully my wife puts up with my cockamamy ideas and lets me do this website. I would not be able to do what I do without her love and support.

I hope I can take another photo of the gardens with my wife in another 25 years.

I keep hoping we will get some snow so I can go out and get some photos of the holiday lights with some fresh powder. It looks like we are going to have a wet Christmas instead of a white Christmas. I figured I would post a pic of the holiday lights at the Waterworks because I will never get tired of looking at them.

I saw this old meat market on the corner of Bond and Mackinaw and it made me realize that when I was growing up we always drove to the store. It must have been nice to be able to walk a few blocks to the store. For the most part, those days are over. When I was a kid I would ride my bike to the local 7-11 but that’s closed too.  The last time I went to the store I had to park so far away that I felt like I walked from home. I guess they call that progress.

After part of the building on the corner of Washington and Genesee was torn down the Imagine mural painted by Eric R. Shantz is gone. A new vibrant mural was installed this summer. I hope it helps to bring attention to one of the oldest buildings in Saginaw at that someone will be interested in restoring it.
