I found this old photo from the Goodrich Brothers taken in 1882 in the Saginaw Public Library Digital collection. Wheat & Co. Musical Merchandise was located in the newly constructed Music Block on Genesee Ave, which was built as a three-story building in 1881. Wheat & Co. was a prominent purveyor of musical merchandise throughout Northern Michigan owned and operated by, A. W. Wheat. After the death of Mr Wheat in 1875, C. M. Norris, a former clerk and business partner, assumed control of the business.
I like looking a these old photos and wonder what it must have been like back then. The dirt road with horse draw wagons must have made it dirty and smelly. It makes me thankful for modern convinces like electricity and running water, but the Internet is the best modern invention of them all, and yet I still complain when it’s down or slow.
