The Historic Sign Park on the corner of Court and Hamilton Streets was started in 2006 after the Ippel sign was mounted on a pole where the old store once stood after it was destroyed by a fire in 2002. (you can read about Ippel’s HERE) Tom Mudd and the Saginaw Valley Historic Preservation Society have been restoring and displaying the old historic signs from Saginaw County businesses and Tom told me that it is probably the largest outdoor collection of neon illuminated signs in the country. Neon is expensive and difficult to maintain, and most modern signs are made out of LED tubing, or displayed indoors away from the elements.
